In 2011, KIC 8462852, also known as Boyaijian’ Star, began exhibiting unusual behavior, as the star’s light dramatically dimmed in a matter that had never been seen before. The Kepler mission began to monitor the star, which again acted in a mysterious manner in 2013. In 2017 from May through September, four prominent dimmings occurred. On May 19th Scientists around the world were urged to turn their telescopes toward the star, in a desperate attempt to crack the mystery of the star’s strange behavior.

NASA attributed the most likely explanation being an uneven ring of dust shrouding the star’s light resulting in the dimming, though many other theories have emerged including an extremely hypothetical (cough) scenario that the star’s activity might be associated with an advanced civilization constructing a Dyson Swarm.

So what do you think? Are these strange dimmings a natural phenomenon? Or have we finally begun to make some sort of contact with an intelligent extra terrestrial species? Perhaps we’ve discovered what many have popularly called an advanced alien mega structure. I just hope it’s not the Death Star.
